Michael A. Strebel has been working at the KPM since September 2023 as an Ambizione fellow of the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF). In his project, he investigates the causes and consequences of municipal mergers in Switzerland. His research interests lie in the analysis of local and urban democracy and politics, as well as in Swiss and Comparative politics. He obtained his PhD in political science from the University of Zurich in 2018 with a dissertation on public opinion towards institutional reforms in European metropolitan areas. In 2019, he joined the University of Lausanne as a research fellow and coordinator of an interdisciplinary SNSF project on urban elites in Switzerland in the period 1890 to 2020. He has been a visiting researcher at the Universities of Mannheim, Roskilde, and Vancouver. He has published his research in political science, public administration, and urban studies journals, such as the European Journal of Political Research, the International Journal of Urban and Regional Research, and the Public Management Review, among others.
