Prof. Donald Moynihan holds the McCourt Chair at the McCourt School of Public Policy at Georgetown University (USA) and will be Professor of Public Policy at the Ford School at Michigan University from fall 2024. His research is dedicated to the effects of public action on the relationship between the state and citizens. Recent work focuses on populism and developmental setbacks in democracies. Moynihan has presented his research findings to policymakers around the world and his work has been cited in the media and in politics. Prior to joining Georgetown University, Moynihan was director of the La Follette School of Public Affairs at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and has taught as a visiting professor at Aarhus and Oxford Universities. Moynihan is a past president of the Public Management Research Association and a member of the National Academy of Public Administration.

He has received numerous awards, including the Kershaw Award and the Herbert Simon Prize, and his work has been recognized by various professional organizations. A native of Ireland, Moynihan holds a bachelor's degree from the University of Limerick and a master's and doctorate from Syracuse University's Maxwell School of Citizenship and Public Affairs.
